How to read this correctly
  • Peat source: latest global ensemble release (24 Apr 2026), but its mapped reference period is 2000–2020—not a 2026 land-cover observation.
  • Fire source: 2024 NASA FIRMS MODIS Collection 6.1 standard archive, presumed vegetation-fire detections with confidence ≥30.
  • “Detection” means a satellite thermal detection, not a unique fire, burned-area polygon, or fire probability. Cloud, orbit, sensor, land management, and spatial confounding remain.
  • This is a country-level association test. It cannot prove that peat causes fire or that peatland is less vulnerable when the ratio is below 1.
